Mobile Baykeeper


Mobile Baykeeper provides citizens with a means to protect the beauty, health and heritage of the Mobile Bay Watershed and coastal Alabama for the sake of our families and our communities. Mobile Baykeeper collaborates with communities gulf-wide to balance a strong economy with the protection of our environment, public environmental challenges. Our environmental education and habitat enhancement programs reflect our vision that a thriving community is one where economic growth and environmental preservation go hand in hand. The Nature Conservancy


The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. We have been part of the Gulf Coast community for more than 35 years and work in every Gulf state, from Florida to Texas and even Mexico and the Caribbean. From restoring oyster reefs to helping create and expand state parks and national wildlife refuges, the Conservancy works with partners to restore the Gulf’s most important habitats and the benefits they bring to people. The Ocean Foundation

The Ocean Foundation is a unique community foundation based in Washington, D.C., with a mission to support, strengthen, and promote those organizations dedicated to reversing destruction of ocean environments around the world.  Our Gulf Restoration Fund, with staff in Mobile, supports efforts to restore the coastal and marine ecosystems of the Gulf of Mexico.


The Foundation raises millions of dollars each year to support marine conservation, increasing the capacity of conservation organizations, hosting projects and funds, and supporting those working to improve the health of ocean species globally.  The Ocean Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of individuals with significant experience in marine conservation philanthropy, complemented by an expert, professional staff, and a growing international advisory board of scientists, policy makers, educational specialists, and other top experts.

Alabama Wildlife Federation

The Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) is the oldest and largest non-profit conservation organization in Alabama. The AWF was established by sportsmen in 1935 to promote the conservation and wise use of our wildlife and natural resources and to ensure a high quality of life for future generations of Alabamians. 

Auburn University

Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name of the school was changed to Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, and expressing the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.

Today, Auburn is one of the few universities to carry the torch as a land, sea and space grant university. Our Fall 2010 semester enrollment was 25,078. Our students can choose from more than 140 degree options in 13 schools and colleges at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.

Auburn University has developed into one of the largest universities in the South, remaining in the educational forefront with its traditional blend of arts and applied science, and changing with the needs of today while living with a respect for the traditions and spirit that are Auburn.

Boat People S.O.S.

The mission of BPSOS is to assist Vietnamese refugees and immigrants in their search for a life in liberty and dignity by empowering, equipping and organizing Vietnamese American communities in their progress toward self-sufficiency. 

Coastal Conservation Association of Alabama

The stated purpose of CCA is to advise and educate the public on conservation of marine resources. The objective of CCA is to conserve, promote and enhance the present and future availability of these coastal resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public.

Coastal Land Trust

Coastal Land Trust Inc. purchases and retains land in environmental danger within the Mobile-Tensaw delta.

Community of Christ Church

The Community of Christ Church is an international Christian church with 250,000 members found in more than fifty nations. Our International Headquarters, including a Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, is located in Independence, Missouri. The church was organized in 1830 in New York State. 

Dauphin Island Sea Lab

As a marine laboratory the DISL’s mission encompasses marine science education, marine science research, coastal zone management policy and educating the general public through the Estuarium, DISL’s public aquarium. Founded in 1971 by the State Legislature, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) is Alabama’s marine science education and research laboratory.

Ducks Unlimited

Ducks Unlimited conserves, restores, and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.

Envision Coastal Alabama

Since its inception, Envision Coastal Alabama has served as the foundation for successful regional planning efforts that continue to unify and strengthen the future of coastal Alabama. Armed with the foresight and dedication of hundreds of volunteers, this 12-year visioning process has transformed the way in which this region addresses the impact of growth and quality of life in our coastal area. 

Hand Arendall, LLC

Hand Arendall provides its clients with legal services in all areas of traditional civil practice. The firm was organized in 1941 and has 70 lawyers, making it one of the largest law firms in the State of Alabama. The firm has a fundamental commitment to providing legal services in a timely and cost-effective manner. 

Hands On South Alabama

HandsOn South Alabama strives to mobilize people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems.  With over 6,500 volunteers, including a 25% increase in volunteer registration in 2010,  HOSA collaborates with community  partners to promote volunteerism, expand the impact of donor dollars and build capacity of the non-profit sector. 

Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association

Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association is the oldest conservation organization in Alabama and a non-profit directly involved in conservation, restoration and enhancement of the natural resources of Mobile County and the surrounding areas. Although primarily concerned with wildlife habitat, MCWCA is focused on environmental and recreation issues related to hunting and fishing in South Alabama.

National Wildlife Federation

The National Wildlife Federation is America's largest conservation organization. The organization works with more than 4 million members, partners and supporters in communities across the country to protect and restore wildlife habitat, confront global warming and connect with nature.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

NOAA is an agency that enriches life through science.  From daily weather forecasts, severe storm warnings and climate monitoring to fisheries management, coastal restoration and supporting marine commerce, NOAA’s products and services support economic vitality and affect more than one-third of America’s gross domestic product. NOAA’s dedicated scientists use cutting-edge research and high-tech instrumentation to provide citizens, planners, emergency managers and other decision makers with reliable information they need when they need it.

One World Adventure Company

One World Adventure Company is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit, Outdoor Education program is located in beautiful Mentone, Alabama. We offer residential and travel camp adventure experiences for groups in some of God's most beautiful places. According to the size of your group, we offer two facilities; Lookout Mountain Camp and Nippersink Lodge provide the perfect spot to plan your next retreat or field trip.  The primary objective in our program is to empower participants with decision making skills, promote self confidence, and teach environmental and community stewardship.  Learn more on our facebook page.

Partners for Environmental Progress

Partners for Environmental Progress was founded on the guiding principle of promoting business growth while enhancing the environment and overall quality of life in the Mobile-Baldwin area. PEP works to bring together individuals and companies who share this vision.  By combining our efforts, through community involvement,  fact-sharing, and a conciliatory approach, we strive to promote both environmental stewardship and economic prosperity. 

Sierra Club- Mobile Group

Mobile Bay Sierra Club sponsers educational programs, activist events, and outdoor activities throughout the year. Meetings are the first Tuesday of every month at the Five Rivers Center at 7:00pm. Each meeting features a speaker and presentation that is open to the public.

Established in 1953, Thompson Engineering is an employee owned, multi-disciplined engineering firm headquartered in Mobile, Alabama. With offices in five states, Thompson Engineering provides full-service engineering design, environmental consulting and construction management. Thompson also supports the communities where its employees work and live through the Thompson Foundation, which provides charitable contributions and scholarships.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is a bureau within the Department of Interior. Our mission is to work with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

Weeks Bay Foundation

The Weeks Bay Foundation was incorporated in 1990 as a non-profit organization to support the Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in its efforts to protect the pristine coastal area of Baldwin County , Alabama . The Foundation, with over 550 members, supports the Reserve through donations of land and educational exhibits, public awareness and education programs, water quality monitoring efforts, and volunteer programs.

City of Fairhope

Fairhope is a breathtaking vision that draws visitors from around the world who come to enjoy its natural beauty and its vibrant downtown filled with unique shops and galleries, gourmet restaurants, cozy cafes and more. A growing community of over 16,000 residents, Fairhope is also much more than just one of the prettiest small towns in the South. The city leads the way for others with active recycling programs, a state-of-the art water treatment system, involved citizens (over 70 percent report doing some type of volunteer work), and a new Comprehensive Plan that seeks to maintain the city's high quality of life through controlled growth and development.

Mayor Tim Kant, elected in August 2000 after Nix's retirement, has served the city since 1983, first as city horticulturist and later as Public Works Superintendent. He has pledged to protect the city's unspoiled beauty, preserve the high quality of life so enjoyed by its 16,000 plus residents, and to carry on the dream that is Fairhope.

City of Orange Beach

Dog River Clearwater Revival

A grassroots movement began in 1996 for monitoring the water quality of Dog River quickly became the Dog River Clearwater Revival (DRCR). We became a 501c3 non-profit organization in 2002 that is dedicated to improving the water quality of the Dog River Watershed. Our mission is to create an environment where families, children, citizens, workers, and visitors work and play in a clean, safe, and accessible Dog River Watershed. 

Mobile Botanical Gardens

Dedicated to preserving native plants and to educating the community, the Mobile Botanical Gardens encompasses an extensive variety of cultivated areas and collections. A non-profit 501(c)3 organization, The Gardens holds fundraising events during the year to raise money for its ongoing operation and maintenance. 

Mobile Bay Area Education Foundation

The Mobile Area Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit, local education fund dedicated to creating higher expectations for our public schools and our community.

The mission of the Mobile Area Education Foundation is to build community responsibility for improving public education outcomes in Mobile County. We work with, but are independent of, the Mobile County Public School System.

Mobile United

Mobile United is dedicated to building an inclusive and prosperous community by deliberating issues and encouraging action when appropriate. Our community roles are encouraging tolerance and inclusiveness, building a unified network, and developing leadership.

Southern Environmental Law Center

For over 25 years, the Southern Environmental Law Center has leveraged the power of the law to protect the environment of the Southeast---the fastest growing region of the U.S.  Working in all three branches of government and with more than 100 partner groups, this nonprofit organization shapes, implements, and enforces the laws and policies that determine the quality of the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the landscapes and communities you love.

Susan Downing-White

Susan Downing-White's work has been featured in American Artist magazine and exhibited at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Her work can be found in corporate, government, and private collections. Her education includes a bachelor's of fine arts degree in painting.

US Army Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approximately 37,000 dedicated Civilians and Soldiers delivering engineering services to customers in more than 90 countries worldwide.

Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve

Weeks Bay Reserve is located near Mobile Bay's eastern shore about 40 miles southeast of Mobile, Ala. The Interpretive Center and main offices are located on U.S. 98, about 12 miles southeast of Fairhope. 

Pelican Coast Conservancy

The mission of the Pelican Coast Conservancy is to provide 21st century solutions and sound scientific applications for conservation of critical natural resources in the face of a changing climate, focusing on environmental restoration, preservation, and conservation efforts throughout the Gulf Coast region with specific utilization of geographic information systems applications in land conservation, ecosystem services, carbon sequestration and conservation biology.

Alabama Outward Bound School

Outward Bound is a non-profit educational organization and expeditionary learning school. We serve people of all ages and backgrounds through active learning expeditions that inspire character development, self-discovery and service both in and out of the classroom. Outward Bound delivers programs using unfamiliar settings as a way for participants to experience adventure and challenge in a way that helps students realize they can do more than they thought possible. Customized courses provide curricula developed for struggling teens, groups with specific health, social or educational needs, business and professional organizations and faith-based communities.
